What Land is to be preserved?
The highlighted trails are owned by a housing developer, and we now have an opportunity to acquire these 120 acres of land - the best that nature offers - to add to our parks! Our goal is to preserve this unique natural setting forever, offering trail users a pathway through beautiful mature oak woodlands surrounded by ponds.
This 120 acre addition to North Park is now possible: a 30% increase in the park!
This land (red outline) forms a continuous wetlands & wildlife corridor providing valuable filtering for water entering Lake Lansing. It contains old oak and hickory woodlands, pines, & ponds, nesting grounds for sandhill cranes and great horned owls and homes for many rare plant and animal species.

Please see these documents outlining the environmental value this land offers:

Why a community buy-in?
- The local match for DNR Natural Resources Trust Fund grant support is more than half a million dollars
- The County Commissioners need to see that the community cares this much!
What will you gain?
- A natural space preserved for the enjoyment of all generations to come
- An opportunity to create a permanent legacy for your family or business, and our community
- More space to walk, ski or jog!
- Donors of $500+ will be included on a permanent sign to be placed in the park and printed in the Towne Courier
Please help now with your contribution! We need to raise $150,000 - $100K from residents + $50K from businesses & foundations - the land acquisition by the County and Township is now contingent on our raising this level of community support!
